Our Story – 50+ Years of Making Waves

Water polo may be the oldest organized team sport in the Olympics, but let’s be honest—it’s still the best-kept secret in athletics. Grueling, strategic, and wildly fun, it’s often called the hardest sport in the world (and we’d agree). Back in 1970, a fearless crew of ambitious Pittsburghers decided this hidden gem deserved a home in Western Pennsylvania—and so, the Pittsburgh Renegades Water Polo Club was born.

These aquatic pioneers dove in headfirst, competing locally, statewide, and nationally while growing a tight-knit community one pass, sprint, and eggbeater at a time. What started as a passionate side hustle quickly turned into a 50-year tradition of competitive excellence and camaraderie.

Today, the Renegades welcome newcomers, returning players, and lifelong water polo lovers alike. We host regular practices, travel to tournaments, and run skills clinics led by experienced, high-level talent—all while keeping the vibes fun and the workouts sneakily intense.
